Tak bat morning ceremonies in Laos.

Year: 2018
Location: Luang Prabang
Camera: Fujifilm

Every morning at dawn, the streets of Luang Prabang adorn various shades of orange, borrowed from the robes of hundreds of Buddhist monks assembled barefoot, holding silver bowls to receive morning alms from local residents. This meditative ceremony, known as Tak Bat (or Sai Bat), is captivating by the total silence that surrounds it.

It is a practice of giving and letting go.

Locals rise early and sit along the road with bamboo buckets filled with sticky rice (a local specialty). They wait in silence for the monks.

To the locals, Tak Bat represents religious dedication and a way to cleanse the soul
